He currently conducts the Málaga Pulse and Plectrum Orchestra, a group he formed in 2021. He has numerous works originally composed for plectrum, both chamber and orchestral.

Repertoire

OPPMA combines minimalist landscape works with others from the Baroque spring; works of the deepest expressionism with well-known pieces of Spanish nationalism from a century ago; even works originally written for these instruments. In addition, OPPMA is proud to have two composers among its members, who have contributed significantly to its repertoire with original compositions for plectrum that reflect the richness and diversity of this sound. Especially for this concert, the work Nozomi by our composer Pepe Partal Rodríguez is presented.

"Nozomi" is a Japanese feminine name that means "Hope", and the title of the work is precisely because it deals with hope in a personal relationship between Nozomi and the listener.

«This composition arose from my last trip to Japan, an adventure in which, together with a friend of mine, we lived experiences, met people and faced situations that inspired me to compose it. It is a programmatic work that is developed around the idea of exoticism and personal relationships between two cultures as far apart as the Japanese and the Spanish.

«My intention with this work is for each listener to get to know their Nozomi, to imagine their world and recreate their surroundings, to be enchanted and to be passionate about her. To do this, I use musical resources from Japanese and Spanish folklore, and I seek to generate a common aesthetic that unites both styles. In each of the three movements I propose a phase of the personal relationship, evoking in each listener a unique image of Nozomi and a story that is born spontaneously with listening. Nothing more! I am very excited for the moment to come to share this work with all of you.»
